First time I have had to use it, hopefully the last time. Front page burners are the worst.

To whit:
"Yes. Especially when Americans are responsible for those lives. It unfortunate when people like Michael Ballaban who no nothing about American politics let alone what goes on in other countries tries to make him self look like a real journalist by putting what amounts to be spewing American propaganda at Jalopnik readers. The truth is we (the US) have hired mercenaries to steal another countries sovereignty again while pretending to be insurgents. Our CIA along with our Army and Navy are there along with NATO making sure that our scheduled "Regime Change" goes as we want it to."

Does it tell someone when you dismiss their comments? I like to go to gawker, say something I know they'll hate then dismiss their replies. I hope they can see me dismiss them so they get super pissed

I agree with 505, I would have let this sit there and let other people laugh at this guys ignorance. I save the dismiss button for personal attacks and insults that don't add anything to the discussion at all.

And this guy has a little trouble with grammar and spelling, you should proof-read it for him to piss off some more lol.

The problem is that under the current discussion system, as an author anything I reply to is automatically given a big boost towards the top. If I don't want something seen, it's because it's the opposite of what's good, and that takes away from every other discussion.

I can't recall off the top of my head if I've personally sent anyone to the gray, though it's possible I may have (but it would be rare, and only for extreme cases). I've absolutely dismissed comments, usually for heinous racism, sexism, etc. that detract from the community that we should all be trying to foster. Oh, and those nasty little buggers that keep wanting me to make $86,000/day from the comfort of my home.

It sounds awful tempting, but everyone knows that Jalopnik pays way more than that.

Yeah...when ever I am fortunate enough to get FP'd I try to interact with everyone, but I've learned sometimes it is best to leave some people in the grey.
